In this blog, we will be learning about available VMware Licensing and their features.
VMware provides ESXi as a free download also but with some limitations:
1) Standalone Installation (no vCenter)
2) 32GB RAM is max. supported RAM
Licenses:
VMware Standard License:
--> Basic licensing with basic features set offered
This is a backup & recovery solution designed for vSphere environment. This is used for protection of data on virtual machine.
Data can be of 2 types: App Data, OS Data. Backup jobs can be centrally managed on the duplicated storage target.
Data protection is installed as a vAPP.
De-duplication is done automatically.
High level of de-duplication minimise the storage requirement of backup by 75 %
No backup agents are required to be installed on VMs. For advanced data protection, additional cost is required.
vShield Endpoint:
This is a security solution for VMware.
Security management of environment can be done from the web client.
vShield endpoint is also maintained as a vAPP.
vShield processes antivirus and anti-malware functions.
Agents are not required on VMs (scanning is done by host)
Key antivirus & anti-malware functions are offloaded from VM, thus improving overall VM performance.
